How much does a website cost in Australia (2026)?

Short answer: It depends on who does the work. A do-it-yourself builder costs a monthly subscription plus your time. A freelancer or agency charges a one-off build fee, and hosting, email and changes are usually extra. A managed website service bundles design, hosting and changes into a monthly fee. Conexity’s managed website is $599 to go live (first month included), then $99 a month, including GST, with the domain, hosting and email included.

Prices for DIY, freelance and agency work vary widely, so ask any provider for a written quote that lists exactly what is included.

The costs people forget

  • Domain name. A .com.au needs an ABN and renews every year.
  • Hosting and security. Someone has to keep the site online, backed up and patched.
  • Email on your domain. Often a separate monthly charge.
  • Copywriting and photos. A site with no words or photos of your work does not sell.
  • Changes. New services, prices and photos. Ask how changes are charged.
  • Your time. A DIY site is cheap until you count the weekends.

What you should get for the money

  • A site that loads fast on a phone and has your phone number one tap away.
  • Your services and service area written out plainly.
  • Proper on-page SEO structure (titles, headings, descriptions, local details).
  • Your domain registered in your business’s name, not the provider’s.
  • A clear answer to “what happens if I cancel?”

Questions

Straight answers.

Is $99 a month for a website good value?

It depends what is included. Ours covers hosting, monitoring, your .com.au domain, professional email and six months of polishes, after a $599 go-live fee that includes the first month. Compare like with like: ask other providers what their monthly fee covers.

Do I own my domain?

With Conexity, the .com.au is registered in your business’s name. Check this with any provider before you sign up.

Does a more expensive website rank better on Google?

Not by itself. Speed, clear content about your services and area, and an accurate Google Business Profile matter more than the price tag. Nobody can guarantee a ranking.
